A gentle reminder this summer as you encounter mosquitos, wasps, flies, rabbits and other fauna.
I didn’t know Saudi Arabia was so breathtaking.
Eye-opening: “If a person needs to portray a certain personality or suppress their authentic self in order to survive, then society actually has implicit rules on who gets to succeed.” From the Filipino decolonization writer Carl Lorenz Cervantes.
“I don’t expect the light to save me, but I do believe in the ritual.”
I could sit and watch this all day. Fanions et carillons, 2023, by the French art duo Pinaffo & Pluvinage
“It is not until much later, that children understand / their stories and all their accomplishments, sit atop the stories / of their mothers and fathers, stones upon stones, /beneath the water of their lives.”
This has to be my favorite TV show I’ve watched in a really, really long time. I loved the acting, the pace, the storyline. I loved that it was created by Steven Zaillian, director of Searching for Bobby Fischer. And most of all, I loved the setting: coastal Italy. It’s the perfect show for slow summer days.
Paintings of artist studios by Damien Elwes. I love Matisse’s the best.
I’ve been obsessed with following this group of Brits as they travel from London to Cape Town by car, and this Egyptian guy who is traveling from Egypt to Japan without taking an airplane. They’re showing me a view of the world that I’ve never seen before.
And some little things from me
I got to interview one of my favorite Egyptian photographers about light, history and nostalgia for NPR.
I drew a cake-shaped zine that you can print out at home for a story on how to have a happy birthday.
I drew a comic on how to make peace with your guilty feelings.
The cake shaped zine is awesome! Thanks for creating it and linking to that story. :)
Always love these ❤️
