A list of beautiful things #13

malaka.substack.com
how dare they melted it!
  • dear god, i love this

  • i know what i’m making myself for breakfast

  • these ideas have haunted me all week

  • this song has haunted me for months

  • gift giving isn’t my love language, and i never saw the point — until i read this

  • the limited spectrum of emotion

  • i watch this sometimes when i need a boost

  • to float, to shimmer, to sparkle: i wonder what verbs i’d choose for my own artist manifesto. (here’s what it looks like in practice)

  • you are so very gentle

  • the impression, the reality (here’s another one)

  • a rose bush generator

  • fashion police, arrest me. i want these so badly.

  • “I believe that each of us is given one sentence at birth, and we spend the rest of our life trying to read that sentence and make sense of it. We write hundreds of poems, and many books and paragraphs and lines, in order to understand that one sentence.” poet li-young lee in a 1995 interview in bomb magazine

some little things from me

  • the love of a mother

  • i’ll be in columbia, missouri next weekend (april 21-24) for unbound book festival. come say hi!

  • get a preview of It Won’t Always Be Like This (my upcoming graphic novel) at your local indie comics shop for Free Comic Book Day (May 7)

Malaka!! I always love your newsletters, but I wanted to say this one felt transformative. I feel like I'm going to be thinking about a lot of these things for weeks, in the best way. Thank you! <3
